About this opportunity
This is a Freehold Post Office and General Store with Fuel Bowsers on a main thoroughfare which has been servicing the Western Mackay area for over 35 years. The current owner operators live on site making it a business that also comes with an awesome lifestyle. This opportunity ticks a lot of boxes for someone looking for a great business which caters to a flexible lifestyle and is also run under management.
Business Story
Located in the rural area of Gargett, 52kms West of Mackay and supported by locals, this Australia Post registered post office is a great aspect that compliments the supermarket business. Being an older community, it provides locals with full post office services and the physical location is fantastic for this demographic.
The business is known as Gargett General Store and Post Office, and it has been in this location since for over 35 years. The main road frontage on the Mackay – Eungella Road has easy access with both street and off-street parking. Something you may not know is that Gargett has a large residential and farming catchment and is only a short drive to Eungella National Park which is about to boom with the introduction of international mountain biking and further tourism industry.
The store has a large commercial kitchen with a pizza oven. The uses for this could be expanded to the introduction of themed food nights for locals to come together and could maybe even introduce a restricted alcohol licence. There is plenty of opportunity that is ripe for the taking with this venture and all it needs is a driven buyer to realise the full potential.
The freehold property includes a 3-bedroom residence, in addition to the commercial buildings that the business operates out of, on 2024m2 of land. The block has ample space to potentially expand into stock feed, allowing more diverse options top of what is already in place.

Phil started his working career in purchasing with large and multi-national companies in Sydney.
A family relocation to Bowen in 1974 was the catalyst to owning his own business.
Phil has been in various businesses from Pest Control to Delicatessen/Takeaway and has for the last 39 years built a wholesale business that has served Bowen, Whitsundays, Mackay and the Coalfields, from 1 truck and himself to 6 trucks and 15 employees.
This has given Phil a very solid knowledge of the area from Bowen to Rockhampton and what it takes to thrive in business there.
Phil has a strong knowledge of business and business practices built through the process of growing his own business as well as time spent on State Franchise Council and dealing with the many changing government policies in those 39 years.
The process of selling his own business has shown Phil the real need for a locally based business broker, easily contacted and heavily focused on the Central Queensland area, which has led to his involvement in CQ Business Brokers.
